The topography from Red Bluff to Redding is ideal for the formation of Smog.
In addition to being surrounded on three sides
by mountains, Redding has air currents
that often enter the area from the south from as far away as the San Joaquin
River Delta.
Most often the result is that there is only one
place for air to go, and that is up.
Temperature inversions quite literally put a lid on the area and seal in the
particulate
matter from agriculture, forest fires, carbon emissions and dust. Now factor in
the sulfur
dioxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide and other hydrocarbons
from the
burning of fossil fuels, and you have a very unhealthy environment for anyone.
DRAMATIZATION ONLY
(for now anyway)
